Can the temperature be regulated room by room?

Regulating the temperature room by room is a key factor in combining comfort and energy savings. This article explains the various solutions available for controlling the heat in each space of your home, whether it's individual thermostats, smart valves, or home automation systems. You'll discover how to adjust the temperature to your needs, optimize consumption, and improve your daily well-being.

How does it work, in practice?

Each room (or zone) is connected to a manifold (a kind of “distribution box” often hidden in a closet or wall). This manifold can be equipped with small motorized valves that open or close the water supply as needed. And it is thermostats (often wall-mounted, one in each room) that tell the valves what to do. For example:

  • Is it 66°F in your room, just like you want it? The thermostat turns off the heating.
  • Is it still a little chilly in the living room? The valve lets hot water flow until it's just right.

And today, it's even easier

With modern systems, you can even:

  • Adjust the temperature remotely from your phone,
  • Set different schedules for different rooms (for example: warm in the bathroom in the morning, cooler at night in the bedrooms),
  • Or even create different “moods” for each room.

Please note:

If your system is a bit old, it may not yet be zoned room by room. But the good news is that you can often add this feature without breaking the bank (by installing thermostatic heads on the manifold and small wall-mounted thermostats).

In summary:

  • Yes, you can adjust the temperature room by room.
  • It's really comfortable,
  • And it means you don't waste energy heating rooms you don't use, so you save money too.
