Is it compatible with all energy sources (gas, oil, heat pump, etc.)?

Yes, a hot water floor heating system is very versatile: it can run on almost any energy source. This is one of its major advantages.
Floor compatible with all energy sources

Here is what it is compatible with:

Gas (gas boiler)

No worries, this is one of the most common cases. Just make sure the water outlet temperature is set correctly (usually between 35 and 45°C).

Fuel oil/heating oil

Yes, even though it's less common today. The boiler just needs to be able to operate at low temperatures (otherwise, a small control system is added between the boiler and the floor).

Heat pump

This is clearly the winning combination. Heat pumps work very well at low temperatures, which is exactly what you need for underfloor heating. The result is economical and environmentally friendly heating.

Wood or pellets (boiler or hydro stove)

Yes, too! If you have a central system (wood or pellet boiler), it can power underfloor heating. Again, the water temperature needs to be regulated, but this is built in.

Solar thermal energy

This is even a great idea in mid-season! Solar energy can preheat the water for the floor, and another system takes over if necessary.

In summary:

Energy source Compatible with hot water underfloor heating?
Gaz Gas
Heating oil / Fuel oil Yes (with proper regulation)
Heat pump Perfectly suited
Wood / pellets Yes (with central system)
Solar thermal Very good as a supplement
Direct current No (provide a water heating system)
